While everyone’s eyes are turned towards the movie Solo: A Stars Wars Story, others are looking for a possibility of another movie spin-off where Liam Neeson could appear again. Yikes! Getting excited?
Not just yet. The chances for that may be slim right now as another Star Wars film about droids is currently on the works but let’s see what the actors have to say.
Ewan McGregor Playing Obi-Wan Again
Fans already know from previous reports that Director Stephen Daldry is set to direct the movie about Obi Wan Kenobi. The Jedi Master role has been played by Sir Alec Guinness in the original trilogy while the same title was played by Ewan McGregor in the prequels. Although there is no official casting yet, McGregor has already showed interest in reprising the role.
In fact, in his recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he happily said: “There’s a lot of talk and I’d be happy to play him (Obi-wan) again but I don’t know anything more than you do.”
McGregor’s eagerness seems to stem from the unfinished business with the role. He says, it would be a good segue between the last episode of the prequels and the new episodes. However, in his interview with EW, he tried to manage the fans’ expectations by saying: “There’s no official offer, and I haven’t met them about it or anything. But I’ve always said that I’d be happy to do it if they wanted to do it.”
“I think they’ve got films to make until the 2020s, so I don’t think it’s going to happen soon if it happens at all,” he continued.
Joel Edgerton Rejoining The Film With Liam Neeson
Remember Joed Edgerton? He was the talented actor who played Owen Lars who was Luke Skywalker’s uncle. Well, while he was promoting his new film Red Sparrow, he shared his insights for this wild, wonderful idea. When asked if he would accept the role again, he answered:
“First part of your question is: could he come back? Yes. Should he come back? Maybe even more of a yeah! I think me and Ewan and Liam Neeson in a movie is pretty good. Absolutely! I’d be totally down,” he shared.
How will Liam Neeson Return?
It’s important to note and remember that Neeson’s role, Qui-Gon Jinn, a Jedi Master already died after a lightsaber duel with Darth Maul. In the scene before Jinn died, he made Obi-wan promised to train Anakin as a jedi.
Since he already died, will there be a chance of resurrection? Well, if you’re a star wars fanatic, you would know that jedi mentors can possibly come back as a force ghost. Even Neeson was forced to think when this was opened to him during the promotion of his film, The Commuter.
The 65-year old actor said: “This is the first time I’m hearing of this. No-one’s been in touch with me. I know in the Star Wars world anything is possible. In the first one, The Phantom Menace, I died but we know, you know, Jedis come back and stuff but no-one’s been in touch. We’ll see.”
“I like the idea that Uncle Owen is one of those guys who has done some super cool shit but has just never bragged about it. My idea is that he could go out and have some adventure and then he comes back and slips back into that unassuming moisture farmer role. Everyone talks about Obi-Wan being super cool, Owen secretly knows that he was there, and he did some of the cool shit, too.”
Hmmm… Do you think it will be a blockbuster hit if we get a Star Wars film focusing on Obi-Wan with Owen Lars as the support, then an appearance from Qui-Gon Jinn?
