The chance of breaking the law, getting caught, and getting a free pass are far and few between, unless you are a super star on a hit TV show with millions of fans and your character’s fate is a huge talking point because your character may or may not died during the season finale.
Such was Kit Harington’s fate when he was stopped for speeding. The officer that stopped the actor happened to be interested enough in the fate of Jon Snow to agree to not write up the ticket if Kit revealed the Game of Thrones character’s fate from the season’s cliffhanger.
All of the GoT actors were sworn to secrecy regarding the fate of all the characters, but the fate of Jon Snow, being a fan favorite, was especially important to keep secret. While discussing the details of the secret pact with Tonight Show host, Jimmy Fallon, Kit talked about his inability to keep his lips sealed. “When the writers told me, they said, ‘You can’t tell anyone – you can’t tell your mom, your dad, your brother, your friends. I told my mom and dad right away – that’s my mom and dad!”
Then, Harington gave Jimmy the details on how he got out of a speeding ticket, “I was driving to my parents’ house and driving too fast and this policeman pulls me over and he said, ‘There’s two ways we can do this: You can either follow me back to the police station and I book you in, or you can tell me whether you live on the next season.'” Harington thought the cop was joking until he noticed how fixedly the police officer was looking back at him with a very serious expression.
“I looked at him and said, “I’m alive next season, and he says, ‘On your way, Lord Commander'”.
